The Emiliano Rio, the brainchild of Oscar Niemeyer’s disciple Arthur de Mattos Casa, is a head-turner for anyone passing by Avenida Atlântica. Beautiful and intriguing as its white-washed facade may be, it was what lies inside that left us wondering. Speaking to Ms. Paula Simonsen while waves gently kissed the shore, it became clear why Emiliano Rio is regarded as one of the best boutique hotels in Cidade Maravilhosa.

It is simply impossible to escape that our 11th-floor, L-shaped rooftop pool delivers the most jaw-dropping sea and mountain views. From there, guests will be lost for words with the scenic sights of the Sugar Loaf, Leme, Copacabana Beach, and the Atlantic while bathing in the gorgeous infinity pool. On the same level, there is also an oceanfront sauna.

Most of our 90 glamourous, stylish rooms offer unobstructed ocean views. With that said, these are the dearest to me:
• Ocean Master Suite
This is our most spacious suite with 1300 sqft (120 sqm). The views are second to none, as the unit is located on the building’s 10th floor, only surpassed by the 11th-floor rooftop. The luxurious suite has a bathtub and two showers facing the ocean.
• Ocean SPA Suite
The suite’s ocean-facing round bathtub is truly spectacular, particularly when sprinkled with scented flowers.
• Ocean Emiliano Suite
The only action guests need to perform to enjoy a soul-filling view of the sea is opening the suite’s “cobogós,” a cleverly-thought structure that provides privacy without compromising the natural light and surrounding sights.
Because of these suites’ easterly orientation, indulging in a bath while watching the sunrise is an unmissable experience.

From experience, I’d say guests stepping into our accommodation balconies for the first time usually react with amazement. After the awe of that sweeping view sinks in comes a second reaction: when guests watch joyful Cariocas enjoying the beach, either dipping their toes on the ocean or engaging in sand activities such as beach tennis, beach volley, and beach soccer, among others. We sense their instant urge and eagerness to get their fair share of Rio’s singular lifestyle; that view is just how powerful.
In addition, having a full moon dinner on the rooftop or an in-room romantic breakfast are occasions where guests report enjoying the hotel’s view the most.
