To know Lisboa is to fall deeply in love with the Tagus River: it runs in the city's veins as the oxygen runs in our blood. Every single Lisboner adores the river and Altis Belém Hotel & Spa is a fine example of that passion. This opulent 5-star hotel is a design icon, its parallelepiped shape rises gently from the ground in a puristic mix of white and glass. It is grand yet delicate: the river Tagus is the one which deserves to be highlighted. There is no other way to sleep closer to Lisbon's river (you could easily throw a pebble from your terrace) so, as you can imagine, the views are totally mind-blowing. You will wake up by the river, have the chance to walk or cycle aside it, have a drink or dine with the sight of it, nothing else in between. It will be the river and you, Christ The King and 25 de Abril Bridge to the left, Belém Tower to the right. Altis Belém Hotel & Spa is undoubtedly one of the best hotels in Lisbon. Architects love it for the ingeniously balanced futuristic lines, the modern interiors and the awesome rooftop terrace and pool where a swim seems to end only at the opposite shore.... what else does someone wish to do in a gorgeous place like this? Maybe... dine at Feitoria, the hotel's Michelin- starred restaurant, walk to the other side and visit the imposing Jerónimos' Monastery, or maybe indulge yourself in one of the great concerts at Belém Cultural Centre (CCB).

The Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon has been the pride of the town since it was raised in the late 1950's. Designed by the famous Portuguese architect Pardal Monteiro and meticulously decorated (History says the interiors were created during construction) this luxurious 5-star Lisbon hotel is a rare example of artists' collaboration. Perhaps that's one of the reasons why it still is a Lisbon icon after all these years: the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon maintains a ravishing elegance that emanates from its classical decor and the priceless works of Art that invade most of the spaces (for instance the tapestries by Almada Negreiros). Nevertheless, an irreprehensible reputation is not achieved without service; again, this upscale hotel made it throughout the decades. The Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon is a top of the line hotel located in one of Lisbon's best areas, next to Marques de Pombal square and Liberty Avenue, it offers unbelievable views that overlook the city till they reach the Tagus River, fly you up to 25 de Abril Bridge, take you to the imposing statue of Christ The King, and finally reach out the shore at the other river bank. But climb to the rooftop and let yourself be overwhelmed by 360º vistas of the entire city and surroundings. After that, we assure you, you'll appreciate a swim at the indoor pool (we often ask, how can a pool be so gorgeous?!) or maybe not... perhaps your wish will be to keep on getting lost in contemplation... then go to floor 11, where an outdoor running track awaits.

An ode to the vibrant Bairro Alto and to Rua das Flores (Flowers' Street, a famous alley, immortalized in Portuguese literature), the fancy Bairro Alto Hotel is one of Lisbon's icons. The thorough restoration of the building, the detailed design of the interiors (we're especially fond of the golden elevator) and the care for comfort (the warmest rooms of all) make Bairro Alto Hotel a hard one to beat. The citizens are proud of it and, Flores do Bairro, the hotel's restaurant, is one of their favored places for lunch or dinner, as the top floor is for a drink at sunset or night. My, my, my, it isn't hard to understand why: the terrace bar - Terraço BA - shows some of the best city's panoramas, the kind of sights that leave you speechless. Lisbon's river seems to be ridiculously close, Lisboa suddenly appears as if compressed in a sole dimension for your own pleasure. Besides all this, the location is one of the best. Bairro Alto Hotel lies at Camões Square, a stone's throw from Chiado and Bairro Alto, 10 minutes away from the trendy Principe Real or the chic Liberty Avenue. What more could you ask for during your upcoming Lisbon stay?

Lisbon is well-known for its 7 hills, all visible by the river. They are one of the reasons why this is such a special city. If you're fond of astonishing sights, the kind of vistas that turn any visit (no matter the length) into an unforgettable one, then Lisbon is the place for you, and possibly the top-notch EPIC SANA Lisboa Hotel your kind of place. This 5-star hotel, one of the best in the Portuguese capital city, is located in one of Lisbon's upscale areas, very close to the chic Liberty Avenue and a stone's throw to Amoreiras, surely the fanciest shopping mall in town. The EPIC SANA Lisboa Hotel, being one of the city's finest hotels, offers state-of-the-art comfort and amenities in a modern building, lighted up by glass. But what really strikes any visitor are the views. We said it is located in one of the hills, remember? What this means is you can expect the most glorious panoramas of all. Ask for a room with a river view, if possible. In the case it is not, do not miss the infinity pool at the rooftop: it would be a shame to loose the opportunity to swim high up in the sky while gazing at the way the colors change from the typical white, yellow, rose and violet that cover the walls, to the green-blue, ever changing Tagus river.

Design hunters, trend seekers, novelty junkies, are you planing a trip to Lisbon? In this romantic city, there is MYRIAD by SANA Hotels, an oasis of futurism and state-of-the art style, a brilliant fusion of architectural experimentation and interior innovation that evokes the daring design of Dubai's Burj Al Arab. But let us grow your excitement step by step. This 5-star Lisbon hotel is situated in the new-born area of the city, Parque das Nações, a never-stop growing district since its creation in the late 90's, when it hosted EXPO'98. The place is literally an open-air museum with amazing buildings from some of the best architects in the world: Santiago Calatrava - Oriente Station, Peter Chermayeff - Lisbon Oceanarium (don't you dare miss it!), Siza Vieira - Pavilhão do Conhecimento, amid others. Big Tech companies moved to the area as well as citizens because of its remarkable location and astonishing views. Already in the mood for MYRIAD by SANA Hotels? Hold your breath: it lies close to the grandiose Vasco da Gama Bridge. No words are enough to describe what your eyes can reach from one river's end to the other. You'll be high above sea level (in the tallest building in Lisbon) surrounded by extremely modern interiors... Enough now. You have to experience it, right?

Dear guest: welcome to one of the most classic, unique and luxurious experiences you may have in Lisbon. The sublime Pestana Palace Lisboa Hotel & National Monument is a remarkable palace which was built in the 19th century by the Marquis of Valle Flor. It is quite hard to summarize what this place is: it is the charm of bygone days combined with upscale service and comfort. The four royal suites are the sheer definition of elegance with its frescoes, stained glassed windows and coquette details; the reception rooms at the original building are sumptuous and evoke long, exotic journeys from the past (notice the doors, they all come from different parts of the world). The gardens emanate memories of the Equator; the pool is amazing, a mimmic of a lake with emerald waters. And, what about the views? You'll be staying at the higher point of one of the noblest Lisbon streets; it isn't hard to imagine a lovely view, is it? Well, it isn't lovely but extraordinary, the Tagus River unfolding before your eyes, 25 de Abril Bridge drawing you off gently to the open arms of Christ the King. Looking for a ravishing place to stay in Lisbon? Pestana Palace Lisboa Hotel & National Monument. Favored by stars like Madonna or Diana Krall, it is truly once in a lifetime experience.

Alfama comes from the Arabic word Al'hamma that means 'hot fountains' or 'baths'. Alfama is one of the renowned Lisbon districts: the curvy streets, the flavors and odors of the amazing Portuguese food, the sounds of Fado, and the overwhelming sights of the eternal city-river love, make it an irresistible Lisbon area. If this is the place you would like to stay at, make your reservations at Santiago de Alfama - Boutique Hotel and you'll probably experience the best of all. Part of Lisbon's archeological heritage, this luxury boutique hotel was born in a 15th century palace, the well-known 'Palácio dos Castros', situated in Rua de Santiago, the street where Cristopher Columbus got married. São Jorge Castle is 10 minutes away and Mirador de Santa Luzia, one of Lisbon's breathtaking viewpoints, is around the corner. Now, the vistas at Santiago de Alfama - Boutique Hotel are anything but extraordinary: go for the Santiago Suite and your eyes will travel from the rooftops to the Tagus River; opt for a Junior Suite in the case you're a water lover above all. Santiago de Alfama - Boutique Hotel, a very chic option, grounded in the soul of Lisbon.

Mimmic the life of Portuguese aristocracy (old and new) by staying at luxurious Olissipo Lapa Palace. Built in the 19th century on a hilltop that overlooks the Tagus River, the Olissipo Lapa Palace is a sumptuous 5-star hotel in Lisbon that will certainly impress its guests. The classical decoration may travel you back in time and introduce you to the richness of true breed Portuguese style: expect frescoes to cover the walls, stained glass to paint the windows, opulent upholstery everywhere. But then gaze at the window or the terrace and breathe... the river will be all around you from the riverbank at your side to the facing coast, right after passing through 25 de Abril Bridge. Now (if you're not bewitched by the sight) step outside: my goodness, what could you say about a pool that is surrounded by a sub-tropical garden (in fact the entire hotel is)? Magic, that's what it is, one of Lisbon's top swimming pools, we dare to say. Olissipo Lapa Palace is situated in a quiet, very elegant Lisbon neighborhood called Lapa. Mainly an upscale residential area, full of palaces, it also homes the residence of the Prime Minister, as well as São Bento Palace - the Portuguese Parliament or Assembly of the Republic -, and the Estrela Basilica, an unmissable church with an impressive dome. Take the famous tram 28 right there and Baixa, Alfama and São Jorge Castle - some of Lisbon's most famous attractions - will welcome you. Or walk pleasantly down the hill and join the lively Príncipe Real and Bairro Alto with their lovely street markets, designer shops and amazing nightlife.

Born in a beautiful 1940's building, Altis Avenida Hotel is one of Lisbon's sexiest 5-star hotels. The masterful blend of black and golden tones with the whitest of the whites, the noble woods, the marble in the bathrooms and the white linens that soften your dreams, all care for the best of stays, all work for a memory to be kept and nurtured, if possible, 'hoping you'll be back soon'. At the hotel's top floor, the restaurant displays a retro allure, the predominant color - white - favoring the superb views of the city and São Jorge Castle. Placed at the very end of the sophisticated Liberty Avenue, at Restauradores, Altis Avenida Hotel is the frontier between posh, luxury brands, and historical landmarks' such as the genuine Rossio Square, the imposing Lisbon Cathedral or the magnificent Praça do Comércio. Nevertheless, if you want to have more, go for the most romantic of all: the fairytale-like Sintra, its palaces and castles seducing every bit of you. How to get there? Quite easy: Rossio Station is across the street, you just need to buy a ticket and enter the train that travels to the realm of a fantasy that became true.

Liberty Avenue is a ritzy avenue. Home of high fashion brands and elegant restaurants, it is the perfect way to ramble until Restauradores, Rossio, Príncipe Real and Chiado. Well, Liberty Avenue also houses Sofitel Lisbon Liberdade, one of the best hotels in this desirable area. Sofitel Lisbon Liberdade combines classical elegance with excellent service, the one you would expect from a Sofitel. The rooms, extremely spacious and comfortable, offer wonderful vistas of Liberty Avenue but also São Jorge Castle and the Tagus River. Some of the best city landmarks can be found within walking distance (the Carmo Convent or São Roque Church can be reached in less than 10 minutes) and two of the most beautiful gardens as well (Torel Garden and Botanical Garden). Sofitel Lisbon Liberdade: a smart hotel choice in one of the smartest Lisbon districts.

The Corinthia Hotel Lisbon is a clever choice if you are traveling to Lisbon with your family and wish to be in a less busy area. Situated in a mainly residential district, the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon is a comfortable hotel surrounded by nice gardens and waterfalls. The rooms offer interesting views of 25 de Abril Bridge, together with the sight of two importante landmarks: the ancient Águas Livres Aqueduct and the state-of-the-art Amoreiras. If you're bringing your children, the aqueduct is an adventure they will love to live: ask your concierge to book a visit for you, it is an amazing experience. The Lisbon's Zoo is another unmissable spot; you can easily walk for it is quite close. This remarkable zoo opened in 1884 and has been a Lisbon's beloved attraction ever since. Take your kids and spend a lovely day at this wonderful park where more than 300 animal species are preserved and studied. The Corinthia Hotel Lisbon is 10 minutes away from Amoreiras (probably the fanciest shopping mall in town) and, if you take a taxi, 15 minutes will be enough to take you to Chiado, Rossio or Bairro Alto areas.

An outdoor, elegant round pool, surrounded by greenery. A bar that flies you to the moon and the city around you while you sip your favorite drink. A restaurant nestled by city lights. Superb rooms that allow other areas of the town to be part of your own private decor. And all this right at the center of Lisbon, in one of the most exclusive areas, as a matter of fact 'the' place one should be at for a totally posh experience: Liberty Avenue, the graceful, luxurious street that neighbors the districts of Principe Real And Bairro Alto, and takes you to Rossio and Baixa. Tivoli Lisboa is one of the emblematic Lisbon hotels. Housed in a 1930's building, this opulent hotel has been one of the prides of the town for decades. It's reputation is quite hard to defeat: the retro decoration is amazing, the service is brilliant, Brasserie Flo - the restaurant at ground level - is a must with its art-deco interiors and sublime French cuisine. And the higher you go, the best is Tivoli Lisboa: what can you say about a restaurant and a bar that let you fly allover town (and we mean a-l-l-o-v-e-r) ? We call them breathtaking, but they're real names are Terraço (terrace) and Skybar. Perfect!

The Intercontinental Lisbon, one of the best hotels in Lisbon, is located in Rua Castilho, a lovely street that flows along Parque Eduardo VII, one of the most beautiful parks in town. Essentially a residential area for prosperous families, this is a quiet spot although extremely close to Lisbon main points of interest: Liberty Avenue is a couple of meters away, Principe Real 10 minutes far from hotel's entrance, Baixa, Chiado and Bairro Alto within a quick ride. At the Intercontinental Lisbon you'll enjoy the Intercontinental-style features: a classical, discreet decoration, spacious rooms with amenities that favor the best rest of all. What you do not expect (and the thing we cannot resist to tell you all about - after all we are the-most-perfect-view chasers) is the kind of sights you'll be able to indulge on from your rooms' window. To say they are nice is rather unfair; to call them vistas is to run short. They are glorious! And they are panoramas, not regular sights! From your room, your eyes will grasp the Tagus River after flying over the rooftops, they will reach São Jorge Castle after floating above the city. You only need to choose the one you want and ask for a room that comes with it.

The Sheraton Lisboa Hotel & SPA lies in Lisbon's business district, a vast area also named 'Avenidas Novas' (the new avenues). Rather close to some of the major points of interest (you can reach Liberty Avenue and downtown Baixa by foot), the Sheraton Lisboa Hotel & SPA is a magnificent hotel, renowned for its SPA and the overwhelming views that can be enjoyed either from the rooms or from the Panorama Bar at 25th floor. If you're some kind of a 'view collector' then ask for a Club Room upon doing your reservations (here's another piece of advice: ask for a river view one, you'll be totally amazed). And do not end your Lisbon holidays without visiting the Panorama Bar: the sights surely deserve a drink or two... but if you can, dine or lunch, the panoramas are so incredible they sure do need a gourmet cuisine and.. time, plenty of time, to fully enjoy them.

Welcome to Alfama, the oddly picturesque Lisbon district in which the old voices of Fado still resonate on each and every corner of the narrow streets, and new talents are born every year. And welcome again to Memmo Alfama - Design Hotels, the first boutique hotel that was raised in this sinuous, full-of-history Lisbon area. The Memmo Alfama - Design Hotels is already a benchmark for modern, urban hotels, and Wallpaper magazine rated it as one of the best in 2014. In fact, this memorable boutique hotel was built after the complete restoration of a late 19th-century building and it has definitely redefined the standards of contemporary style (wonderfully) integrated in a historical area. 42 rooms ease up your mood fully displaying the river and Alfama before your eyes. Our favorites? The Terrace Rooms with their small wooden decks over the Tagus River. São Jorge Castle is a few steps away; you'll fall in love with the amazing restaurants that enchant you with their amazing food or the deeply heart-felted Fado songs, the little streets with their hidden corners and shades of green ... It will be hard to leave sensual Alfama... but if you're able to resist, just walk and, in less than 10 minutes, Rossio, Chiado or Baixa will welcome you again.

Marquês de Pombal is probably the largest square and truly Lisbon's epicenter, named after a remarkable man who reconstructed the city in the aftermath of Lisbon's earthquake in 1755. Some of the city's main arteries (such as Liberty, the avenue that leads to Restauradores and Rossio) depart from here. One of them is Duque de Loule, where H10 Duque de Loule hotel can be found. Opened in March 2015, it is an exclusive Lisbon hotel that lies in an 18th-century building which stands out easily in the area, the beautiful facade proudly rising as the street goes up. H10 Duque de Loule was meticulously renovated and decorated by the catalan designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán. The interiors blend traditional Portuguese elements (such as giant walls in blue and white tiles, where historical scenes are pictured) with modern facilities. The 89 rooms are an ode to comfort and some of them offer picturesque views of the area. However, the sights on the top floor, and particularly the ones at ´Limão (Lemon) Chill-out Terrace' are anything but spectacular. It's the perfect place to enjoy a cool drink at sunset and unwind for a while as one contemplates the slow pace of the light, falling from the city into the river in a deep, peaceful plunge.

Lisbon is a deadly romantic city. And if you come in May, not only the temperatures are amazingly nice (easily up to 26ºC) but also some strong blossoming trees' perfume will be in the air. Now, one of the wonderful species that populate almost every Lisbon's corner are the beautiful Jacarandás, their flashing violet flowers and incredible sweet odor turning every visitor's head in delight. If you're looking for a place to stay in Lisbon and the latter has fulfilled your senses, book a room at the fabulous Lisboa Carmo Hotel. It is placed next to Largo do Carmo, a square full of charm, partly due to the inviting restaurant's terraces, greatly owed to the Jacarandás that encircle it. You'll be able to stare at them if you choose the right room; opt for an upper floor and then you'll be enamored by the light of the Tagus River or the sight of São Jorge Castle. Lisboa Carmo Hotel is a very pleasant boutique hotel in one of Lisbon's best areas. An agreeable mix of culture, fashion, food and nightlife is next door. You can walk for the best shopping of all (3 minutes to Rua Garrett, Rua do Carmo or Bairro Alto), you can stroll a little more and know all the churches around (they're worth the visit, especially São Roque), you can ride one of the oldest elevators in town (Elevador de Santa Justa) and reach Rossio or the incredible Praça do Comércio, and, finally... you can go for a promenade at night and seduce your beloved with the lights, the food and the warmth of this very special city named Lisboa.

Does the song that says 'I want it all and I want it now' describe you? Willing to fit those criteria on your next visit to Lisbon? Then remember this name: BessaHotel Liberdade. Why? #1: It's one of the fanciest hotels in Lisbon. Cleverly hidden in an ancient building, its interiors vibrate in golden tones and vintage objects, tempered by the whiteness of a delightful indoor pool that gently drives you to a peaceful patio covered in green. #2: BessaHotel Liberdade lies in one of the best places to stay at in Lisbon. Yes, Liberty Avenue, the exclusive spot where high fashion brands walk side by side with trendy restaurants. By the way, you'll also be less than 5 minutes away from Principe Real or Bairro Alto if you wish to have a flavor of Lisbon's nightlife, and 700 meters away from Chiado for some culture and history (like 'A Brasileira', Fernando Pessoa's favorite cafe, or the great Carmo Ruins). #3 BessaHotel Liberdade offers lovely views of the city and the Tagus River. Some of the rooms come with a balcony, try to have one of those, Lisboa is really a city that likes to show off. Enough said? Then have it all; you can have it now.

There is a small, charming hotel that lies in one of the prettiest and noblest Lisbon's streets. It was named after the street itself - As Janelas Verdes (The Green Windows) - and it it epitomizes a certain kind of atmosphere that can only be experienced in a city like Lisbon. Considered one of the city's best boutique hotels, it is nested in an 18th-century building. The interiors are elegantly classic, the service immaculate. The romantic hotel has a kind of a home ambiance with photos, books and art objects displayed in a cozy manner. There is an exquisite rooftop library where a graceful terrace is suspended over the waters of the Tagus River. There is also a courtyard full of plants and flowers which is a perfect setting for breakfast during spring and summer (incidentally, the nicest seasons to visit Lisbon). The rooms' atmosphere is as rich as to drive your imagination into romantic old days where poems were written by the window at the sight of green, blue waters... As Janelas Verdes Hotel is on the banks of Lisbon's river, next to the Ancient Art Museum (a must!), encircled by the old Lisbon districts of Lapa, Madragoa and Santos. Well known Lisbon restaurants can be found over there, as well as famous Fado spots, like Senhor Vinho or A Casa da Mariquinhas.

What to do in Lisbon when your wish is to have a balanced mix of business and pleasure? The answer is: you choose to stay at the right spot. And the perfect place to suit these needs is SANA Lisboa Hotel. The SANA Lisboa Hotel is situated 350 meters away from Marquês de Pombal, Lisbon's division of old and new. If you go down, the fancy Liberty Avenue will take you to Restauradores, Rossio and Praça do Comércio. If you walk the opposite way you'll meet the upscale neighborhoods of Amoreiras, Republic Avenue or Saldanha. Another enjoyable thing about the SANA Lisboa Hotel is that it amalgamates tradition and modernity in itself: this 4-star hotel lies in a nifty building, the interiors carefully decorated in light tones and contemporary elements, spacious rooms to grant top-of-the-line resting time. Comfort and service are top priorities as it is to offer the best sights of all to their guests. Choose the right room (the higher, the better!) and you will be amazed by the incredible panoramas of the city: São Jorge Castle at the left, the old city to the right, and Lisbon's river in between, its beautiful waters peacefully whispering tales from the past, when the Portuguese navigators left the port in their never ending thirst for discovery.

A Techie, are you? One of those that like to be in control, fully independent, no need for help (unless he/she is a gifted barman - after all an excellent Dry Martini cannot be prepared by a mobile phone). Dear guest, if this description suits you and you're planning a visit to Lisbon, look for the giant black hand that 'sustains' a modern building at Saldanha Square (one Lisbon's business districts, also an upscale residential area) for it symbolizes the 'you - hotel'. EVOLUTION Lisboa Hotel is quite a futuristic concept; when you enter the place its seems you're entering a science fiction film (which is rather unusual being in one of the oldest European capitals). At EVOLUTION Lisboa Hotel you'll be in total control of your stay: self check-in, self check-out, room temperature, lights and curtains through your own hotel's smartphone app or in-room flat screen TV. The overall ambiance is state-of-the art-tech, ultra modern. For a change, you may stare at the window... the views display the traditional Lisbon beauty in its light colors enhanced by the ever-blue sky that makes this city such an irresistible place.

Turim Terreiro do Paço Hotel is a fine place to stay in Lisbon, offering contemporary, comfortable interiors and wonderful views both of Lisbon Cathedral and São Jorge Castle. It is also a great place to plan day trips to the interesting outskirts of Lisbon. If your stay allows it, take the train at Cais do Sodré and enjoy the wonderful beaches around the city or take the Metro (300 meters from the hotel) and go to Parque das Nações (formerly EXPO '98) for a day at Oceanário - Lisbon's Aquarium - or other remarkable museums that were born in the newest city's district (if you're traveling with kids do not miss Pavilhão do Conhecimento - the Knowledge Center - truly an unforgettable place).

If you're planning a work trip to Lisbon or usually prefer business districts, Jupiter Lisboa Hotel is a clever choice for you. Located in Saldanha and very close to the impressive Campo Pequeno (formerly a bullfight arena, now a shopping mall with very interesting options for lunch or dinner), Jupiter Hotel Lisboa was born after the restoration of a 1906 building's facade. The interior design is modern and punctuated by photographs of Lisbon, the singers that sang it (like Amalia) or the poems that described it. You can count on very nice rooms and superb panoramas of the city, especially at the rooftop, where a lounge and pool will display bird's eye town perspectives. Jupiter Lisboa Hotel is also as central as to easily grant access to touristic Lisbon areas like Liberty Avenue, Rossio or Chiado: several metro stations are steps away from the hotel's entrance.

Lx stands for Lisboa (the abbreviated way Lisbon citizens use to write it down) but also for Lisbon Experience. The truth is you'll have both if you opt to stay at Lx Boutique Hotel. First of all, the location: this boutique hotel lies at Alecrim, a sloping street that connects the districts of Cais do Sodré, Baixa and Chiado. A vibrant city's artery, Alecrim is the best connection for Lisbon's shopping, gastronomy or nightlife. Right across Lx Boutique Hotel, Pensão Amor is a great place to drink and dance after dinner; a bit further down, Rua Côr de Rosa (the pink street) is an amazing spot where several signature restaurants and bars meet. But if you're fond of sushi, do not miss Confraria, the trendy sushi restaurant at Lx Boutique Hotel. Let us now mention the hotel itself: imaginative design invades the entire place, including theme rooms full of original elements and particular amenities. However, the top of the pops are the balconies: every single room comes with one, and the views will drive you crazy. Can you imagine waking up with the Tagus River stretching its curves lazily before your eyes or silver-shining by the moonlight? No you can't, you have to live it.

In 1988 a devastating fire destroyed a significant part of Lisbon, namely the majority of Chiado. Several historical buildings were completely wiped out; amidst them were the beloved Armazéns do Chiado, a centenary store whose facade was a Lisbon's icon. The reconstruction began twenty years after by the talented hands and brain of Portuguese architect Siza Vieira. Entire blocks were rebuilt and, in the exact place where previously one could find the Armazéns do Chiado, Hotel do Chiado was born. As most of Siza Vieira's oeuvres, this is a space where light is privileged. The tall windows, the whiteness of the walls, the puristic design, all work to let the unique Lisbon's light in, side by side with some of the most marvelous views. Yes, a lot of things can be said about Hotel do Chiado. We may mention the smart decoration, the coolness of the rooms, the great service. But to be very honest, the thing that drove us completely insane were the vistas. Hotel do Chiado offer rooms with private terraces that bring São Jorge Castle and the Tagus River right into your premises. However, if you're not satisfied you may as well go for the complete overdose: at the terrace, the bar 'Entretanto' is a deep 180º plunge to Baixa, Alfama and then up to the Castle. Hotel do Chiado lies in one of trendiest Lisbon's districts, neighboring Bairro Alto and Baixa, 10 minutes away from Principe Real.

If there is a hip spot to stay at in Lisbon, Internacional Design Hotel - Small Luxury Hotels of the World is 'the' spot. Considered one of the best character hotels in Lisbon, it is nestled in a building from the early 1900 that suffered a phenomenal restoration. The Art Nouveau elegant windows (as well as other details) were preserved and beautifully combined with artsy elements. The result is a full of humor designed hotel, where color shines at every floor and service exceeds all expectations. Situated in a major location - Rossio -, Internacional Design Hotel - Small Luxury Hotels of the World displays beautiful perspectives of Rossio and other city views. The posh Liberty Avenue is a few steps away, as are Principe Real and Chiado for some more trend shopping or signature eating. As matter of fact, Bastardo, the hotel's restaurant, is already considered a must by Lisboetas (Lisbon citizens - no need to go any further on your first evening. In 1392 a Dominican Convent was built in Lisbon. It was the city's first feminine convent and was named Convento do Salvador (Convent of the Savior). 7 centuries have passed and, fortunately, the premises were restored and turned into a very special hotel - Hotel Convento do Salvador. It is a pleasure to stay there: the decoration is fresh, the views of Alfama and the Tagus River wonderfully smiling at the windows. The location is unbeatable, especially if you wish to have São Jorge Castle around the corner - 4 minutes away, to be precise - or, in less than 10 minutes, visit unmissable historical landmarks such as Lisbon Cathedral, São Vicente de Fora Church or Panteão Nacional, go for some antiquing at Feira da Ladra (literally the Thieves' Fair, a fantastic flea market) or simply get lost in Alfama district - all this while enjoying great food and the voices of Fado. And if you're looking for a hotel in Lisbon but you care for social issues, Hotel Convento do Salvador is an innovative socio-economic project which purpose is to support children and youth through cultural activities. Some of the most renowned Portuguese contemporary artists have contributed and their work can be enjoyed throughout this unique hotel. Some examples are the large tile panel in the hall painted by the duo Pedrita and the works of art by Paula Rego, Pedro Cabrita Reis, José de Guimarães, Júlio Pomar or Julião Sarmento. Hotel Convento do Salvador: memorable, as Lisbon itself.

If these walls could speak they would tell tales from kings and queens, love and hate, war and peace, and they would definitely sing drop-dead Fado songs. My Story Rossio is a Lisbon boutique hotel that sits directly in the world-famous Rossio, the amazing square that connects you to Restauradores and Liberty Avenue to the left, Augusta Street, Praça do Comércio, Chiado and Bairro Alto to the right. This stylish hotel sprang after a complete renovation of an 18th-century building which preserved the old days allure and combined it with a vintage, contemporary style. We hopelessly fell in love with the Suites Rossio View: the word Amor is suspended on the headboard, the window invites the eyes to travel from Rossio up to São Jorge Castle... gosh, what can be more romantic? We'll tell you what else you can do with your sweetheart: walk to Estação do Rossio (170 meters) and visit Sintra, the fairytale spot; have a lovely 15 minute walk by the river, take a train at Cais do Sodré and spend a day at one of the beaches around Lisboa (Linha de Cascais); or... simply ramble around: by choosing My Story Rossio for your stay in Lisbon there will be plenty of alternatives for you to dine, shop and have fun while in the Portuguese capital city.

Play it again, Sam? Pump up the volume? Music makes the people come together? Music lovers, this Lisbon hotel might be the right one for you. HF Fenix Music is a themed hotel that has set its tone in the centre of Lisbon. At the entrance, a giant keyboard welcomes you. A drum set plays reception. Flashlights and other key visuals explore the moto which has given the name to the hotel. All rooms' design explore a musical theme; each one of them is soundproofed and comes with a Bluetooth sound system, multicolored dynamic lightning. Now, the HF Fenix Music's sights are the best stage of all: located in one of the main Lisbon avenues (a few steps from Marquês de Pombal and neighboring the posh Liberty Avenue), this particular hotel provides wonderful views of the city, São Jorge Castle and the Tagus River. However, if you wish to reach stardom, go to the top: the rooftop terrace, its amazing pool and 360º Lisbon panoramas deserve anything but a Bravo and, definitely, one or two Encores.

Lisbon is the city of the 7 hills and also a city where (at least) 7 sensations can be felt: eat, smell, see, touch, hear, walk and sleep. These were the atributes that baptized The 7 Hotel, a very clever choice if you're traveling on a budget but wish to stay in a hotel at the very best of Lisbon's centre. The 7 Hotel is located in Áurea Street, one of the main arteries that connect Rossio Square to Praça do Comércio. This means you can walk to the majority of the Lisbon's major attractions: the best Lisbon restaurants within minutes at Baixa, Bairro Alto, Chiado and Príncipe Real; historic and cultural landmarks steps away - Praça do Comércio, Lisbon's Cathedral or the Carmo Ruins; high fashion brands at Liberty Avenue (750 meters), outstanding options for night entertainment and, of course, the sights of the Tagus River that will follow you from your room's window to almost every single tour around town. Yes, this is Lisboa, the 7 senses' city, more so while staying at centrally-located The 7 Hotel.

Praça do Comércio (also known as Terreiro do Paço) is one of the most important landmarks in Lisbon. It hosted Portuguese monarchy throughout the years and, after that, the Republic. Every crucial event in the Lisbon's history was born or had its conclusion here. It is a studied case in Architecture because of its shape and all the masonic symbols. Quite recently it became a spot for top-notch restaurants also due to its unbeatable location. The place is less than 10 minutes away from Rossio, Chiado, Bairro Alto or Liberty Avenue... where else would anyone like to go in Lisbon? Did you mention São Jorge Castle? Check this out: walk for 5 minutes, jump on the famous tram 28 and off you go to the Castle. Sounds great, doesn't it? Well make it greater and stay at the very Praça in the ravishing Pousada de Lisboa - Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Yes, you will be nested by the walls who protected the kings and queens of Portugal. You will enjoy splendrous views over Praça do Comércio up to the beautiful Tagus River. And you will be immersed in an immaculate chic atmosphere, where tradition and contemporaneity are blended as expertly as Portuguese wines are. Pousada de Lisboa - Small Luxury Hotels of the World. One of best hotels in Lisbon placed at one of the best spots. Can anyone wish for more?

"Palacete" is an adorable Portuguese word. It means palazzetto, small palace. Lisbon is full of beautiful palacetes; a truly remarkable one is Palacete Chafariz Del Rei. Located just beneath one of the most cherished Lisbon districts, Alfama, this former aristocratic home overlooks the never ending Lisbon light as it pours brilliantly over the river. Lisboetas are proud of Palacete Chafariz del Rei: it's impossible to miss the 1800's Neo-Moorish styled architecture; and the Brazilian Art Nouveau interiors stand for an example of meticulous preservation. All suites are marvelous and, guess what, 4 of them were named after the owner's sisters. Ask about our favorite and we'll hesitate between Deluxe Vista Rio or Deluxe Grand Torreão. The first one is extremely romantic and sexy: stuccoed white ceilings contrasting with color explosions here and there, ravishing views over the Tagus River... However, there is still Deluxe Grand Torreão to describe: how wonderful can it be to relax or have breakfast on your private little tower (torreão) while the pristine city and the river surrender at your feet?! Palacete Chafariz Del Rei is one of those special places that deserve the category of Home Design Hotel. It feels like home, indeed, and the centenary bougainvillea at the terrace could possibly tell a thousand tales. Live it at the most - we'll tell you how in a second: plan your trip to Lisbon with 5 more couples and have one of the best hotels in Lisbon just for you. How exclusive does that sound?

Torel Palace is probably one of Lisbon's best kept secrets. Situated next to one of the most romantic gardens in town - the lovely Jardim do Torel - it feels almost a sacrilege to call it a guesthouse. A complete renovation travelled this 19th-century mansion to our era, paying full respect for the ancient style while placing it in the present. The romance allure is still there, surrounded by gardens and the beautiful pool that invites for early mornings when the air and the sky are heavenly bright, or to warm, dramatic Lisbon sunsets. If possible, plan your stay for Spring or Summer; there are no words to explain what a privilege it is to have a swim while this amazing city plunges in surrender before your eyes. Torel Palace lies in one of the quietest areas in Lisbon; but the funny thing is the buzz will be happening just next door: fashion shops, boutiques and trendy restaurants at Liberty Avenue, Augusta Street, Chiado, Principe Real or Bairro Alto are reachable by foot, Praça do Rossio and Restauradores, scarcely 10 minutes away. 'Ok, now tell me about the sights in my room', you may ask. Be ready to hold your breath for the panoramas will take you from the Tagus River to São Jorge Castle.

Príncipe Real is a charming Lisbon district and one of the utmost in what location is concerned: some of Lisbon's best restaurants are there, the lively Lisbon's nightlife as well, be it in Bairro Alto (1 minute away) or at Chiado (say... 5 minutes?). Now, Principe Real is replete with narrow, lovely streets named after flowers; Jasmin Street is one of them and also where you can find Casa do Jasmim by Shiadu. This is a perfect place to stay at in Lisbon if you're one of those who looks for the friendliest of the staffs, a cozy, well-tasted ambiance, a sense of intimacy and... glorious views. Too much? Not at all, Casa do Jasmim by Shiadu will grant them all. This wonderful Lisbon guesthouse opened its doors in 2015, after a complete restoration of a typical Lisbon house. 14 rooms were decorated in a mix of vintage and new, paintings from contemporary Portuguese artists blink naughtily on the walls. It's up to you to choose what kind of view you wish for: the options are multiple, from the quiet Rua do Jasmim to stupendous city views, or the Tagus River, Christ the King and 25 de Abril Bridge's breathtaking panoramas at the deluxe studios with terrace. Wow.

Be where the action but still enjoy serenity; sleep in a place that endures tradition but appreciate how it metamorphosed beautifully. This is Casa Balthazar, one of the best guesthouses in Lisbon. Why? Quite easy to explain: Balthazar Roiz Castanheiro was the founder of Confeitaria Nacional, the oldest patisserie in Lisbon (an unmissable place, by the way). While searching for a family house, he fell in love with this property and bought it in 1882. The family has owned it for five generations as their residence but also as the patisserie's factory; for decades, innumerable Portuguese Christmas Cakes - the delicious Bolo-Rei - and custard tarts - the yummy pastéis de nata - were produced here (the memory is so vivid you can almost feel the smell of those delights in the premises). Come in Summer and you'll have the privileges both of a pool (not very common in Lisbon central areas) and the incredible vistas over the Baixa up to São Jorge Castle. One last thing: forget the car, bring some comfortable shoes: Casa Balthazar is incredibly close to the most famous neighborhoods (all reachable by foot in less than 10 minutes) - Chiado, Baixa, Bairro Alto, and even Sintra or the beaches around Cascais if you consider both train stations are a few steps away.

After this, you'll want to visit all Portuguese vintage stores. You'll wake up early on a Saturday and take tram 28 up to Feira da Ladra (the best and most famous Lisbon's flea market). You'll wish you could bring mosaico hidraulico (typical floor tile work) home and have it placed on your kitchen or bathroom. Dear guest, if you planned a different stay in Lisbon, The Independente Suites & Terrace is the right spot. This is a palace where 'The Independente Collective' has managed to create some kind of a boho allure and homey feeling through an array of antiques and old vintage stuff, the kind you'd like to be able to buy and bring home. The building is amazing and superbly restored (those floors... what a blast!) and the location is certainly one of the best in Lisbon: São Pedro de Alcântara Belvedere is right across the street as is the Gloria Funicular (do not miss it!). The trendy Lisbon district of Príncipe Real is up to the left, Bairro Alto on the back, and Chiado to the right. Confused? Never mind, just climb up to the terrace and the city will be at your feet. The Independente Suites & Terrace. A true off-the-beaten-track experience.

There is a homey feeling at TheHOUSE Lisboa which is impossible to fake. The truth is the property belongs to the same family for 4 generations; memories are certainly impregnated in the walls, the inherent cozy feeling of a family (and a Portuguese one) is felt allover the place. More so when the owner is the grandson of the man who built it. TheHOUSE Lisboa is thus a different kind of holiday experience in Lisbon. There is no typical 'hotel atmosphere'; rather the sensation of being at home. The rooms have kept their original names, the ones we would probably use at our grannies': there is a 'Boys' room', a 'Girls' room', 'The Nanny's room', of course ‘Grandfather's', and even a 'Playroom'. Some of them have balconies from which you can enjoy very pretty views of the city and the river. But climb to the terrace and you'll understand why the family didn't leave the place for so many years: who could abandon these astonishing panoramas of the city?! TheHOUSE Lisboa lies at the upscale districts of Estrela/Lapa. The Estrela Basilica and tram 28's stop are around the corner, Príncipe Real and Bairro Alto a short stroll away from... home.

Príncipe Real is one of the most cherished Lisbon quarters. Beautiful little palaces are everywhere, the shadows of elegant Jacarandas, Ailanthus or Gingko Bilobas refresh you at every step, a fairytale-like Botanical Garden invites you in, a central park (Príncipe Real Garden) delights you with its flowers and trees, including an impressive 1940's cypress with a 26 meter-long top. Right across the street, on the other side of the park, there is a wonderfully preserved yellow 18th-century building. Most of the floors house families, except for the first: welcome to Casa do Príncipe. Casa do Príncipe is an irresistible B&B, named after the neighborhood and King D.Pedro V. The place is a must in Lisbon centre: the rooms, unbelievably spacious, allow lovely vistas of the gardens to come in. All the goodies from the past were preserved and enhanced: the original wooden floors, the stuccoes at the walls and ceilings, the frescoes here and there. The walls were painted in daring colors, the whole ambiance is fresh and bright. Our favorite room? Queen D. Estefânia Suite, terribly romantic in its pink accent, the 3 windows and the lovely balcony overlooking the trees... Casa do Principe is less than 7 minutes away from Bairro Alto, Chiado or Liberty Avenue. Signature restaurants and trendy shops are everywhere. Nevertheless... you'll hear the birds sing. Oh yes, this is heaven in Lisbon!

Santa Catarina is one of Lisbon's 7 hills, and one of the most beautiful and emblematic. Near Chiado and Bairro Alto areas, this is a surprisingly quiet Lisbon district. Once named Monte do Pico e do Belveder (Peak and Belvedere Mount), it was the favored spot for all those who admired watching the movement of ships between the 15th and 18th centuries. Monte Belvedere by Shiatsu is nestled in this privileged location. Built in the 20's, it belonged to a French family and housed their perfume factory as well. Monte Belvedere by Shiatsu is a stunning building that was thoroughly rehabilitated into 12 double and family rooms which maintain some of the old days character (the wooden stairs and original windows) and offer ravishing sights of the Tagus River and the city. There is also a 170 square meter terrace with breathtaking panoramas of Lisbon rooftops and the river up to the opposite shore... enjoy them all at lunch or dinner at Madame Petisca, the on-site restaurant and bar, already a must in Lisbon.
